Hello everyone. You're beloved board maintainer is back after a long holiday which included forgetting that livejournal exisisted.

Anyways, just a quick post to say 'I'VE FOUND THE BEST THING SINCE TIERSEN!'

He's called Dave Thomas and he does all array of Yann covers on youtube and has now started doing his own original music and my god it's beautiful. He's the only person I've ever heard play (apart from the man himself) that does justice to Yann's music.

His youtube profile is over here:
http://uk.youtube.com/user/daveisthemusic

His myspace profile with his original stuff on is over here:
http://www.myspace.com/davethomasmusic

And if you want to support him in making music you can download his stuff here:

That's all for now apart from my usual offerance of sheet music from the amelie soundtrack to anyone who wants it. Just message me your email address and I'll get it over to you.
Lots of accordion love,
Hannah

Hey!

I've just joined this community, but I love the music of Yann Tiersen for a long time. My favourite soundtrack is Good Bye Lenin, but Amélie also has a good chance to be my favourite. If someone needs sheet music, contact me via msn (available at my profile) or write me here at LJ. I'd be happy to send to everyone who desires to play this fantastic music.

By the way, I'm 17, from a little Hungarian town :)

Cheers

Has anyone else here heard Yann's new On Tour album? I finally managed to track down a copy the other day. Post-Les Retrouvailles I was expecting really great things (I loved that album!) but I have to say I'm horribly disappointed in this :(.

It doesn't sound like Yann Tiersen, there's elements of him in there, similar chord sequences and whatnot but all of the fascinating instrumentation seems to have been dispensed with and his band now consists of some electric guitars, bass, and drums (although there's still a Martenot wave which makes it a bit more interesting). He plays the toy piano and the violin on two tracks but that's all.

Don't get me wrong, it's very, very well-written and performed as far as rock music goes (which is effectively what it is), but in my opinion it pales in comparison with the rest of Yann's output. I just can't understand why such a talented multi-instrumentalist would limit himself so much, I suppose, and I hope this is just an experiment for this tour because to me it feels like a waste of a phenomenal talent.

I was going to go to the London gig this April and now I can't decide whether to book or not. It's been five years since I last saw Tiersen live but I'm scared that if I go this year it might spoil the perfect experience I had last time, silly as that sounds.

I sound terribly down on this new style, I know, and I feel a bit disloyal given that I've championed every other bit of Tiersen's work, but it doesn't even really sound like the same person. O___O

This said, on a more positive note I do think On Tour has one highlight, that being the studio version of La Rade. So enormously catchy and exuberant (it's a choiiiiir! Well, sort of) and well-crafted  that I can overlook the screaming guitars. I love it. I'm starting to wish I'd just downloaded it on its own, though ;)

I'd be very, very interested to know what other people who have heard the album thought, whether anyone agrees or indeed has a differing opinion. And if anyone can help me decide whether to book for the April gig, well, that would be nice too because I've been agonising over whether to buy a ticket since I heard the album...

Anyway. Commiserations and arguments on this topic both equally appreciated. :)

hello! i'm casey, & new to the community.:]
i stumbled into yann tiersen's work through the amelie soundtrack (to be truthful, i've never seen the movie - i've just fallen head-over-heels for his music), like most of humanity. i first heard comptine d'un autre ete: l'apres midi when someone recommended it to me, and it was love at first note.

so, my question - would anyone happen to have amelie sheet music they'd be willing to share? i haven't been able to find it anywhere and i haven't been able to have it shipped to my house from the sheet music sites i've seen it at. if anyone would be willing to share, i swear, i'd love you forever.

thanks!:]

Hey, I've just joined this community and I already like it (of course because of Yann Tiersen and so). Well my name is Katty and I'm from Holland. I saw Yann Tiersen in concert last week and I really loved it. It was kind of accidentaly cause I was on vacation in France when I saw a poster of him being in concert. So I, a fan, really wanted to go there and I went. It was awesome. I knew his other music (besides the Amelie music) but I assumed he was going to play on his accordeon (?) or piano or something. But most of the time he played the violin and the guitar. And well, I guess that was what I wanted to say. Are there any other people who went to Yann Tiersens' tour in France this year?
